L’influence du français sur l’anglais camerounais

Résumé La cohabitation au Cameroun des deux langues officielles que sont l’anglais et le français a engendré la francisation de la langue anglaise. Celle-ci semble favorisée par le poids démographique des locuteurs francophones, le discours administrativo-politico-gouvernemental, majoritairement francophone, la proximité réelle ou apparente de la France, par opposition à l’éloignement réel ou apparent du Royaume Uni. La francisation de l’anglais au Cameroun tient à la situation d’une communauté anglophone minoritaire dans un pays où l’immense majorité de citoyens sont potentiellement francophones. Cette francisation se manifeste linguistiquement à travers l’usage de gallicismes lexicaux, des acronymes, l’emploi des prénoms féminins aux suffixes français, les termes en usage dans l’administration camerounaise, les formes d’appellation ou de salutation.

Abstract
The contact in Cameroon of the two official languages, English and French, has generated the frenchisation of the English language. This de facto deculturation of the English language seems to be favored by the demographic weight of French speakers, the governmental, administrative and political discourse which is overwhelmingly French-speaking, the real or apparent proximity of France, in contrast to the real or apparent remoteness of Great Britain. The frenchisation of English in Cameroon is due to the situation of a minority English-speaking community in a country where the vast majority of its citizens are potentially French-speaking. This frenchisation is linguistically manifested through the use of French lexemes, acronyms, female first names with French suffixes, French terms in the Cameroon administration, French professional forms of address.
