Ce n’est pas seulement la langue en tant que structure d’ensemble qui est seule à même de donner des informations sur l’origine sociale des locuteurs. Des sons pris individuellement peuvent aussi être de très grandes sources d’information, selon qu’ils sont bien ou mal réalisés. La voyelle tendue arrondie palatale [ø] constitue en l’espèce une difficulté sui generis pour la plupart des francophones sénégalais en même temps qu’il fournit des informations précieuses sur l’origine sociale des locuteurs et même sur leur religion. Abstract

Not only the language itself can give specific informations about someone’s social origin , but also the singular sounds themselves. In Senegal we deal with a rather wrong and regularly wrong realisation of certain sounds ,what seems to be specific to Senegalese people compared to the surrounding populations of our west African sub region. Among those phonetic difficulties the so called palatal rounded <ø> and dorso velar are, according to me, he best representants of such difficulties. I try to demonstrate in this following issue, that only middle and upper class people can realise those sounds, while lower class people cannot realise them properly. How come that most of the performers of those phonetic difficulties are Senegalese Christian ? Why do people from the so called "bassin arachidier" never realise at school dorso velar [R] ? Why are pupils from the "Daaras" naturally and almost physically unable to realise <ø> ? I try to bring appropriate answers to such questions in the following issue.
